28 Jun – Production updates on steam crackers in Europe
Media sources reported that German chemical giant BASF is planning to conduct a maintenance shutdown at its No 1 steam cracker in Ludwigshafen, Germany.
Accordingly, the turnaround is scheduled to start by the middle of August and last for around 5 weeks. The No 1 cracker produces 235,000 tons/year of ethylene and 125,000 tons/year of propylene.
Meanwhile, Shell announced on its official social media page that it has been in the process of restarting its steam cracker in Moerdijk, the Netherlands.
The planned turnaround started in May after it was delayed due to a strike action at the site. The cracker has a capacity to produce around 910,000 tons/year of ethylene and 510,000 tons/year of propylene.
