25 Jan – RAPID PP, PE units in Malaysia to start up in February
According to a company source, Pengerang Refining and Petrochemical (PRefChem), a strategic alliance between Malaysia’s PETRONAS and Saudi Aramco, is on track to start producing LLDPE c6 and homo PP at their petrochemical joint venture, Refinery And Petrochemical Integrated Development (RAPID) Project, in Pengerang, Malaysia.
Sources expect new LLDPE c6 and homo PP materials to come out by early February, while they noted that it remains unclear whether they will be prime or off-spec. LLDPE c4 material from the project will be available later in the year while the new HDPE line is expected to start production by the second half of 2019.
The RAPID project includes a refinery complex with a capacity of 300,000 barrels/day of crude, a 350,000 tons/year LLDPE unit, a 400,000 tons/year of HDPE unit, and a 900,000 tons/year PP unit, as well as a glycol plant with capacity to produce 800,000 tons/year of MEG unit.
