09 Apr – Formosa assesses impact of Mailiao aromatics plant explosion
Formosa Chemicals & Fibre Corp. (FPCC) estimates a significant loss in monthly sales after the explosion and fire at its naphtha cracker complex in Mailao, Taiwan, the local media sources reported.
The company reportedly announced that the shutdown at its aromatics facility is expected to cause a loss of 30,000 tons in PX sales and cost the company NT$1 billion ($32.4 million) per month. Taiwan’s Ministry of Labor had ordered the shutdown of the plant after the explosion for safety inspections.
The Ministry also confirmed in a press release that the explosion was caused by a leak of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) stemming from a corroded pipeline.
