08 Jan – Petronas-Aramco JV starts trial runs for RAPID project
According to media sources, Malaysian state energy company Petronas and Saudi Arabia’s national oil company Saudi Aramco started conducting trial runs at the crude distillation unit (CDU), which is a part of the joint Refinery and Petrochemical Integrated Development (RAPID) project in Johor, Malaysia.
Media sources reported that the joint venture also received its second cargo of 2 million barrels crude oil from Saudi Arabia, while an official announcement has not been made at the time of press.
The RAPID project, which is part of the Pengerang Integrated Complex (PIC) at the same location, includes a 300,000 barrels/day refinery and a cracker with a 600,000 tons/year ethylene capacity.
The project’s petrochemical facilities are expected to produce 350,000 tons/year of LLDPE, 900,000 tons/year of PP, 400,000 tons/year of HDPE and 800,000 tons/year of MEG upon the project’s scheduled start-up this year
