08 Jan – Ineos to announce location of €2.7bn investment “imminently”
Chemicals giant Ineos will be announcing its decision on the location of a major €2.7bn investment in northern Europe on 14 Jan, a company spokesman has told PNE.
The company announced plans to build a new “world-scale” chemical cracker and propane dehydrogenation (PDH) plant in northwest Europe in July last year.
Unconfirmed press reports have suggested that Inoes has narrowed down the list of locations to Antwerp in Belgium and the Dutch port of Rotterdam.
The Belgian financial daily De Tijd reported on 5 Jan that the port of Antwerp was “in advance stages” of talks with Ineos over the major project.
Speaking to PNE, Ineos declined to comment on press speculations.
The project includes building a 1-million-tonne a year cracker with the PDH unit producing 750 kilotonnes per annum (ktpa) of propylene.
This new investment follows Ineos’ decision in 2017 to increase the capacity of its existing crackers at Grangemouth in Scotland and Rafnes in Norway to over 1m tonnes each.
