06 Dec – Braskem PP declares force majeure in Wesseling
The PP plant in Wesseling currently has no raw material
The polyolefin group Braskem declares Force Majeure for the deliveries from the PP plant in Wesseling near Cologne. According to a letter of 5 December 2018 issued by an AI, a subcontractor is unable to deliver the necessary raw material due to an unforeseen event. Stocks are not enough to sustain production. The PP system had therefore shut down. The duration of the failure is not yet foreseeable. Efforts are made to find alternative options and will inform the customer immediately as soon as further information is available.
Thus, the recent failure of the LyondellBasell large cracker at the site for 760,000 tpy of ethylene and 335,000 tpy of propylene seems to be gaining ground.
Braskem operates in Wesseling a PP line with a capacity of 250,000 tpy.
It is likely that some productions of LYB at the site will be affected by the failure. However, there are currently no details available. The company has facilities for 770,000 yeq PE-HD, 430,000 yeq PE-LD and 370,000 yeq PP.
